Brief description of game mechanics

Telum is an old school game following the principle of no to little hand holding. And while the basics are explained in brief tutorial messages when entering new rooms, you are supposed to learn and experiment yourself.

I have however decided to compile the very basics here for those who are interested. I wont go into depth about stats, but leave that for you players to figure out.

The basic stats for the player in the game are:

Strength - Gives bonus to melee hitchance, and also increases max health.

Tech - Governs chance of healing, repairing, finding loot and scanning.

Agility - Dodge chance and stealth related stuff such as fleeing and first strike.

Gunnery - Chance to hit with ranged weapons.

HP - Health points. Pretty self explanatory.

The last thing I wanted to explain is the various combat commands. Combat is divided into a pre-combat phase and the engage phase where the actual combat occurs.

During pre-combat you can use a tactical scanner to increase your hit chance across the board. Scanners are great tools overall, since they let you plan ahead. First strike is a melee ability, governed by agility. It gives you a damage boost if it connects. However should it fail, the enemy gets a damage boost instead. Coverfire can be used to increase your dodge chance, however it uses 2 ammo, so be aware of your ammo pool.

During actual combat you have the option to use grenades, kicks and weapon attacks (if one is equipped). The kick deals low damage, however it counts as a melee ability so may be boosted by various gear. Grenades always hit, and deal both fire and physical damage. Grenades can be hard to come by however.

Lastly, if you want to discuss the game, please consider joining discord: https://discord.gg/2h8qX2wzjS

That's gonna be all for now, hope you enjoy the game.
